How to be happy with what you have
The main cause of our unhappiness is that we do not give importance to what we already have in life. The want to get more never ends. The more we get, the more we want. This cycle continues till the death. To a great extent, Happiness is a choice. Happiness is choice so that we have options to look at things in a positive way. Besides, seeking happiness in materialistic things is only an illusion. Materialistic things can give you pleasure for some moment or days. After being habitual your happiness will end. Similarly, if you are hoping some bigger achievements or things will give you happiness, then again you are in an illusion. In fact, you have no mindset of finding happiness in little things. To find the happiness you will have to train your mind to be happy in little things. A child finds happiness in smaller things. A toy makes him happy. To be happy you will have to become like a child.
In fact, there are already many things in our life that can make us happy.
Human life – We have a human life. Human life is considered superior to any other life. We are an excellent creation of god. God gave us a special gift of thinking that is not available to other creatures. Our attention never goes towards it and we never express gratitude to God. So filled with gratitude to God for giving a life of a human. You may be an insect, ants and other animals. Celebrate human life so that it is special gifts to us.
Home- One of the basic needs for a human being is a home to live. If we have a house to live in, then we have reason to be happy. We should thank god for being so kind to us. There are many who have to spend the night in makeshift houses or on the road. There are also many who have to leave their home because of civil war or other types of disturbances.
Food to eat - Have you ever thought that there are many in the world who have to go to bed without food or they do not get a balanced diet. Fortunately, we are not one of them. We have a balanced diet to eat. So we have reason to be happy.
Family- Those are fortunate who have a family. In need, only family looks after us. They support us when we feel low. When we fail, when we are neglected by society, our parents give solace, our wife loves us, our Children give us unconditional love and we forget the pain of life. So having a supportive family is so valuable that we should be happy. Remember without family all wealth is useless. They are of no use.
Education- If you have got the right education, then you are fortunate enough. There are many in this world who do not get an education due to various reasons. Be thankful to God for giving the opportunity to get an education.
Job- If you have a job, then you have reason to be happy. You may dislike your current job, but it is essential for you and your family livelihood. Just think, everyone has no job and they are struggling to fulfill their basic needs. So thanks for having a job.
Healthy body and mind- This proverb is true that health is wealth. A sick person can't enjoy his wealth. To take the pleasure from wealth you should be healthy. Have you felt the pain of the deaf, the blind and the lame? Feel their pain then you will understand what you have in life.
Apart from these material things nature has blessed with us many valuable gifts. There is only need to remove all negativity from the mind so that you could see the beauty of nature. Have we ever praised the sun? Have you realized the importance of water? Have you felt that how valuable air is for us? Imagine if there is no water to drink. There is no air to breathe. Will we be alive? Imagine life without trees. Just think is the moon not beautiful? Do birds chirp not fill our heart with happiness?
There are some tips to feel happiness what we have already.
Change Your Thoughts -You can’t change your circumstances, but you can change your thoughts. There are two ways to be happy. The first is to get what we wish. The second is learning to be happy what we have already. We cannot change external circumstances. It is not in our hands, but we can change our attitude towards worldly things. We can train our mind to be satisfied with little things .
Stop comparison- Have you ever consider your dissatisfaction arise because of comparison . Why are you dissatisfied? The main reason is that you compare yourself with others. You do not recognize your blessings that life has given you. Your attention never goes what you have. Your attention always goes what others have. Things of others seem valuable and your own seems unimportant. When we saw our neighbors or close on having a car desire arises for a car. Before it, we were happy without a car. So stop comparison because comparison we feel lesser than other in life.
Do not seek happiness in worldly things - Worldly things can only give you temporary pleasure. It cannot give you permanent happiness. It does not mean that what happiness we get from worldly things should not enjoy. We should enjoy, but we should also keep in mind that happiness from worldly things will not last long.
Identify your quality Identify. There is no one this earth who has no talent. Try to find them. Everyone has some specific quality. You can't be an exception to it. Try to look at your merits. You may have creativity. You may be a good speaker. You may be good at sports. You may be better at a study. Your talent may be in something else. Everyone is special here. When you will start identifying qualities you will feel that there are many things you have already to be happy.
Forget the past bad memory. Without forgetting past bad things true happiness will not come in life. Our mind always wanders either in the past or the future. Past things replay in the mind. The incidents of the past appear in our mind often as a result, we cannot enjoy the present. Those memories seem so real that we forget about the present. Thus we destroy our present moments.
Remember happiest moments - Whenever you feel that you have nothing to be happy. Remember the happiest moment of your life. Note down happy moments of your life on a piece of paper. Write about when someone has loved you when someone has praised you when someone has honored you when you felt proud of yourself. You have achieved something valuable. Any moment of the past when have felt special. With remembering past happy moments you will feel with happiness.
Try to live in the present- We have the present moment to celebrate. And we are destroying our valuable time in past or future. Remember the past is only memory and the future is only imagination. Is it right to being lost in the past that is only in our memory? Is it right to lose our happiness for the future that is only an imagination? It is a time of introspection. Get rid of your past and future because you can feel happiness at present. When you will overcome from the past and the future then you will feel that happiness is all around you. Living in the past and the future is wasting your time.
Keep distance from critics If you want to be happy in life then keep a distance from the negative type of people. Because their criticism made you feel that you are lesser than other in life. You have nothing valuable in life. Owing to comparison your own blessings may feel less.
Identify what gives you happiness - Each person is different from another so they may find happiness in different things. It is important to you that you find what you give happiness.
Develop a healthy lifestyle. To lead a happy life you should develop a healthy lifestyle. You will have to keep a balance between work and rest. You will have to set out priority and will have to work accordingly. You will have to take a balanced diet and exercise regularly.
